The twin saracenic towers

The twin saracenic towers above the ballroom conjure an arresting Indian Raj atmosphere with palm trees, large circular driveway and heritage Indian tree plantings. Originally a private home built by the newspaper owner George Adams, it was extended in the early 20th century under the direction of architect Gordon McKinnon who also designed the original city council building (now Art Gallery) in Dean Street.

A historical landmark

Over the next century it was requisitioned by the armed forces during the Second World War, became Adamshurst Girls Hostel, a boarding hostel for country girls attending Albury High School, retaining many memories of those days. It later served as a facility for rehabilitation and recreation under the local health service before being used as a restaurant and function centre.Today, Adamshurst has been restored as an iconic private residence, hosting concerts and cultural events in the ballroom with its fine grand pianos, harpsichords and probably the oldest pipe organ in Australia. Notable guests include their excellencies the Governor General the Honourable David Hurley and Mrs Hurley.
